We believe contemplative practice transforms the way we see ourselves and our world. It awakens us to the sacredness of all life and to the inner stillness which reveals God’s presence in us. It guides us in the process of becoming fully human and develops our capacity for compassionate action in society.

In the spiritual traditions of the West and the East, meditation is an essential way to make us fully present to God, to ourselves and to creation.

In a culture that neglects, even discourages, quiet, inner knowledge, the need to rediscover and value our contemplative traditions is very great. We need their infusion of meaning and balance to counter the relentless pace, stress and materialism of modern life.

We especially need contemplative practice in the Christian community, since that historic tradition is largely unacknowledged and the potential for impact, vast.
